The song was first recorded by Fred Waring’s Pennsylvanians in 1924, with vocals by his brother, Tom Waring. Other noted recordings were by Jolson, Ruby Braff, Tommy Dorsey, Della Reese, and Bobby Hackett.

About This Version

Tony Bennett recorded “The Moment of Truth” in 1963 and featured an arrangement by Ralph Burns. The song was originally slated for the album I Wanna Be Around, but didn’t make the first LP release; instead it was released later that year on This Is All I Ask. It was included on the 1995 CD release of I Wanna Be Around, but are now included on This Is All I Ask.

Bennett used this song as the overture for his 1964 show Live at the Sahara: From This Moment On.
