The Year of Tony Bennett

An Appreciation of the Art and Music of Tony Bennett

April 23, 2015 By Suzanne Leave a Comment

Song of the Day: Don’t Wait Too Long

The song of the day for Thursday, April 23, 2015 is “Don’t Wait Too Long.”

About This Song

“Don’t Wait Too Long” by Sunny Skylar concerns a relationship between a younger and older person (“you are the summer and I am the autumn”) and the realization that the time together may not be as long as they’d wish. Other recordings of this song are by Frank Sinatra (1965, September of My Years) and Blossom Dearie (1964, May I Come In).

About This Version

Today’s version is the solo by Tony Bennett on his 2014 album Cheek To Cheek duets album with Lady Gaga. It was arranged by Jorge Calandrelli. Mr. Bennett recorded first recorded this song for his 1964 album The Many Moods Of Tony.

About Today

Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett continue their Cheek To Cheek tour tonight at Austin City Limits Live at the Moody Theater in Austin, Texas. It should be really swell. And swanky. I’ll be curating tweets and posting them on the April 2015 Tour Appearances topic, so please check back.

Song of the Day: Capri In May

The song of the day for Sunday, July 13, 2014 is “Capri In May.”

About This Song

I’ve been unable to find much about this song other than was written by Sunny Skylar and Guy Magenta. The song was originally written in French with the title “Je me sens si bien.” The song appears to be widely recorded in the original French version. In addition to Bennett’s version, it has also been recorded by Jimmy Young.

About This Version

Mr. Bennett is currently vacationing in Italy and posted on Facebook that he was in Capri today. So, we have Capri in July, but “Capri In May” is close enough. He also posted this image of his painting from Capri:
