June 12, 2018 By Suzanne Leave a Comment

Song of the Day: The Touch of Your Lips

The song of the day for Wednesday, June 13, 2018 is “The Touch of Your Lips.”

About This Song

“The Touch of Your Lips” was written in 1936 by Ray Noble. Noble was a popular English bandleader who became quite popular in the US as well. After great success in London, he and his vocalist Al Bowlly appeared at the Rainbow Room in 1934. “The Touch of Your Lips” has been recorded by Chet Baker, Nat King Cole and Andy Williams, among others.

About This Version

Tony Bennett and Bill Evans recorded “The Touch of Your Lips” in 1975 for their first album: The Tony Bennett/Bill Evans Album.

About Today

Beginning on June 10, 1975, Tony Bennett and Bill Evans began a three-day recording session at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California to record the songs for The Tony Bennett/Bill Evans Album. In addition to Bennett and Evans, there were just two other people at the session: Helen Keane (Evans’s manager) and the recording engineer Don Cody.

For three days, they rehearsed, arranged and recorded the songs for this album–one of Bennett’s finest and one that is highly regarded by the jazz community.

The Year of Tony Bennett often features songs from both this album and their second album, Together Again. And so today, we recognize this so very significant recording session that resulted in an extraordinary jazz vocals album. For those that are interested, you can read the liner notes from the CD release on our discography page for The Tony Bennett/Bill Evans Album.
