The Year of Tony Bennett

An Appreciation of the Art and Music of Tony Bennett

August 2, 2012 By Suzanne Leave a Comment

When Do The Bells Ring For Me?

The Song of the Day is When Do the Bells Rings For Me?, the opening song on Tony’s autobiographical album Astoria: Portrait of an Artist (which is a personal favorite of mine) released in 1990. The song was written by Charles deForest. In its obituary for Mr. deForest, the New York Times called him a quintessential New York saloon performer. I never heard him perform, but with When Do The Bells Ring For Me?, he wrote a wonderful song. The link comes from the compilation album The Essential Tony Bennett. He also sang it with Mariah Carey on Duets II.
