The Year of Tony Bennett

An Appreciation of the Art and Music of Tony Bennett

September 2, 2023 By Suzanne Leave a Comment

Song of the Day: Maybe September

The song of the day for Sunday, September 3, 2023, is “Maybe September.”

About This Song

“Maybe September” was written in 1965 by Percy Faith, with lyrics by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans. “Maybe September” is from the only movie that Tony Bennett acted in, The Oscar, where he played the good guy, an agent named Hymie Kelly. While the film received mixed reviews, this song is terrific and is beautifully sung by Tony Bennett.

About This Version

Tony Bennett and Bill Evans recorded “Maybe September” in September 1976 for their second album, Together Again, released in 1977.

“Maybe September,” as well as Together Again, is available on Apple Music.

I did some internet sleuthing today and found this clip of Tony Bennett, Stephen Boyd, and Jill St. John from The Oscar. Enjoy!
