Song of the Day: Some Other Time

The song of the day for Sunday, December 31, 2023, is “Some Other Time.”

About This Song

“Some Other Time” was written in 1944 by Leonard Bernstein, Adolph Green, and Betty Comden for the musical On The Town, the story of three sailors on leave in New York City and their romantic adventures. This song is sung at the end by two of the couples. Inexplicably, this beautiful song was cut from the 1949 film version.

About This Version

Tony Bennett and Bill Evans recorded “Some Other Time” in June 1975 for The Tony Bennett/Bill Evans Album.

“Some Other Time,” as well as The Tony Bennett/Bill Evans Album, is available on Apple Music.

Song of the Day: Some Other Time

The song of the day for Wednesday, May 3, 2023, is “Some Other Time.”

About Today

Today we are celebrating the anniversary of the birth of Betty Comden, who co-wrote the lyrics of today’s song with Adolph Green. Comden was born on May 3, 1917, in Brooklyn, New York. In 1938, mutual friends introduced her to Adolph Green and a life-long professional partnership was born. On The Town was their first Broadway musical. In addition to writing lyrics for musicals (including Bells Are Ringing, Wonderful Town, and Peter Pan), the pair also wrote scripts as well for Singin’ in the Rain and The Band Wagon.

Comden and Green sang “Rain on the Roof” in the legendary 1985 Follies in Concert. (The clip also includes Liliane Montevecchi singing “Ah, Paree” and Elaine Stritch singing “Broadway Baby.”)
