The song has become a serious jazz standard and has had many fine recordings, including Bennett’s 1959 recording with Count Basie and his 1962 improvisation with Dave Brubeck at the White House Sessions. Tony Bennett recorded “Mam’selle” in 1959 for the album Tony Sings For Two, which was released in 1962. Bennett recorded all of the songs on this album with only Ralph Sharon on piano–no other instruments. It’s a really gorgeous album, as is this song.
