Song of the Day: La Vie en Rose

The song of the day for Thursday, April 23, 2026, is “La Vie En Rose.”

About This Song

“La Vie en Rose” was written in 1945 by Marguerite Monnot and Louis Guglielmi (aka Louiguy). The song was made famous by Edith Piaf, who first recorded it in 1946. Mack David wrote the English lyric. “La Vie en Rose” has been widely recorded ever since and used in many films, from Bull Durham to WALL-E. The 2007 film biography of Edith Piaf, which starred Marion Cotillard, was titled La Vie en Rose.

Tony Bennett and k.d. lang recorded “La Vie En Rose” in March 2002 for their album A Wonderful World, consisting songs recorded by Louis Armstrong. Lee Musiker was the musical director and wrote the musical arrangement; Rob Mathes wrote the vocal arrangement. Peter Matz conducted and created the orchestration.

“La Vie en Rose,” as well as A Wonderful World, is available on Apple Music.

A Wonderful World won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album.

Louis Armstrong, with Ella Fitzgerald, recorded the song in 1950.

The song of the day for Thursday December 18, 2025, the 5th day of a Tony Bennett Christmas, is “O Christmas Tree.”

About This Song

“O Christmas Tree,” also known a “O Tannenbaum,” is based on a 16th century German folk song. The
German lyrics were written in 1824. Originally, the lyric was not specifically about Christmas, but about the “evergreen” qualities of the fir tree and dealt with faithless love.

The song of the day for December 17, 2025, the 4th day of a Tony Bennett Christmas, is “Silver Bells,”

About This Song

“Silver Bells” was written in 1950 by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans. The song was originally called “Tinkle Bells.” That is, until composer Jay Livingston told his wife about the new song and she reminded him that the word ‘tinkle’ had another meaning and so it was changed to “Silver Bells.” It was first recorded in 1950 by Bing Crosby and Carol Richards and was also used in the 1951 movie The Lemon Drop Kid with Bob Hope, who performed the song with Marilyn Maxwell.

Tony Bennett recorded “Silver Bells” in 2004 for A Swingin’ Christmas, released in 2008. The album featured The Count Basie Orchestra. Lee Musiker wrote the arrangement
