August 27, 2026 By Suzanne Leave a Comment

Song of the Day: When The Sun Comes Out

The song of the day for Thursday, August 27, 2026, is “When The Sun Comes Out.”

About This Song

“When The Sun Comes Out” was written by Harold Arlen and Ted Koehler in 1941. The first recording of the song was made by Helen O’Connell with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra. Barbra Streisand recorded it for The Second Barbra Streisand Album, released in 1962.

About This Version

Tony Bennett recorded “When The Sun Comes Out” on August 17, 1960, for Tony Bennett Sings a String of Harold Arlen. Glenn Osser wrote the arrangement.

“When The Sun Comes Out,” as well as Tony Bennett Sings a String of Harold Arlen, is available on Apple Music.

Barbra Streisand was cast as Miss Miss Marmelstein in the 1962 Broadway musical I Can Get It For You Wholesale at the age of 19. She was so good that her role was expanded during rehearsals to take advantage of her prodigious talents. She was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical. She was signed by Columbia Records based on her performance in I Can Get It For You Wholesale. While preparing to record the Barbra Streisand Album, which won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year, she did a run at the Bon Soir club in Greenwich Village, which resulted in the recently release album Barbra Streisand Live at the Bon Soir, where she sang “When The Sun Comes Out.”
