The song of the day for Saturday, October 2, 2021, is “Night and Day.”
About This Song
Cole Porter wrote “Night and Day” in 1932 for the musical The Gay Divorce, where it was introduced by Fred Astaire. The song was unusual for its time, with a 48-bar chorus rather than the standard 38 bars. Also of note is the verse, which consists of the same note repeated 35 times. It’s believed that Porter may have been influenced by the Islam call to prayer, heard on a visit to Morocco. In any case, it’s one of Porter’s most well-known songs and is a favorite of singers, including Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and Ella Fitzgerald.
