The Year of Tony Bennett

An Appreciation of the Art and Music of Tony Bennett

April 3, 2013 By Suzanne 4 Comments

Song of the Day: Come Next Spring

The song of the day for Wednesday, April 3, 2013 is Come Next Spring.

About This Song

Come Next Spring was the theme song for the 1956 films of the same name, which starred Ann Sheridan. The song was written by Max Steiner with lyrics by Lenny Adelson.

About This Version

Tony Bennett was chosen to sing this song for the film and it was used as the credits rolled. The arrangement was by Percy Faith. It’s very sweet song, but I must say that the very dramatic opening notes scared the cat, who is now hiding underneath the desk.

Come Next Spring, as well as all of the singles on Columbia Singles, Volume 4, is available from iTunes.

You ahd me going thru all of the collection loking for this until I realized you mistitled the song. The correct name of it is “COME NEXT SPRING”. With such a vast catalogue please make sure you title the songs properly so we aren’t digging thru the collection to see if we’ve missed something. THANKS!

I’m finding inconsistencies even in his own listings of the songs, such as Solitude versus In My Solitude versus (In My) Solitude. Sometimes it gets pretty hard to puzzle out what the exact title of the song is, even with external research, which is also pretty spotty sometimes.

OOPS! I see now that you have the correct song name up there. Evidently you changed it as my original emailing shows “Next Spring”. OK…It’s all good now. 🙂

      Hi Paul,
Yes, I did catch that but not until after the original posting. Thanks for keeping me on my toes!
