The song of the day for Sunday, August 17, 2014 is “Some Other Time.”
About This Song
“Some Other Time” was written by Leonard Bernstein, with lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, for their 1944 Broadway musical On The Town. The song is sung at nearly the end of show, as the sailors’ leave is over and they must return to the ship and leave the girls they met behind. It’s one of Bernstein’s better melodies and is a terrific song. Great versions of this song include those by Barbara Cook, Blossom Dearie, Bernadette Peters and Mabel Mercer.
About This Version
Today’s version is from the first album from Tony Bennett and Bill Evans: The Tony Bennett Bill Evans Album. The album was recorded over a four day period in June, 1975 at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California. I can’t say that I have a favorite song on this album; each song, each note is perfect. The album is a treasure.
