The Year of Tony Bennett

An Appreciation of the Art and Music of Tony Bennett

August 27, 2012 By Suzanne Leave a Comment

Song of the Day: Where Do You Start?

The Song of the Day for August 27, 2012 is Where Do You Start.

About Where Do You Start

Where Do You Start? was composed by Johnny Mandel with lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman in 1987. I first heard the song many years ago on a Nancy Lamott CD and fell in love with it then. The song is well-loved by popular, jazz and cabaret singers, including Barbra Streisand, Shirley Horn, Annie Ross,  Rosemary Clooney, and Yvette Stewart. When Tony Bennett recorded it in 2004, I fell in love with it all over again. And, thanks to iTunes, I have a dozen or so recordings of this beautiful song.

About This Version

Tony recorded the song in 2004 on the Art of Romance album. It was arranged and conducted by Johnny Mandel. This song is always worth a listen.
