The melody for “My Reverie” is based on the Claude Debussy “Reverie,” composed in 1890. The lyrics by Larry Clinton were written in 1938. It was quite popular in the late 1930s and 1940s, with recordings by Bea Wain with Larry Clinton’s band, Mildred Bailey, Helen Forrest, Ella Fitzgerald, Bing Crosby. It was also a popular instrumental for bands led by Dizzy Gillespie, Paul Whitman, Glenn Miller, Nelson Eddy and Ray Coniff.
About This Version
“My Reverie” is the sixth song, and the first song on the second side of the LP for Cloud 7, January 2015’s album of the month. It was recorded on December 22, 1954 and was arranged by Charles Panely, who played trumpet on the album. It’s a sweet and tender love song with a lovely arrangement and beautiful vocals by Bennett.
