The Year of Tony Bennett

An Appreciation of the Art and Music of Tony Bennett

April 15, 2017 By Suzanne 1 Comment

Song of the Day: I Let A Song Go Out Of My Heart

The song of the day for Sunday, April 16, 2017 is “I Let A Song Go Out Of My Heart.”

About This Song

“I Let A Song Go Out Of My Heart” was written by the great Duke Ellington in 1938, with lyrics by Irving Mills, Henry Nemo and John Redmond. It was a major hit for Ellington, reaching #1 on the charts. In addition to his own recording that year, other recordings by Benny Goodman and Mildred Bailey were made that year and were extremely popular as well. In 1952 Ellington named this song as one of his eleven favorites.

About This Version

Today’s version of “I Let A Song Go Out Of My Heart” was recorded 1967 for the album Tony Makes It Happen! and features an arrangement by Marion Evans.

About Today

It’s great to be back and a little emotional as well. Since my last post, I’ve been hospitalized (all OK now), moved and started a new job. There have been a lot of changes but I feel better than ever!

I never got to finish Marion Evans month from last February, so I’ll be doing that for the rest of the month and then featuring a new collaboration artist in May.
