The song of the day for Monday, August 7, 2017 is “Falling In Love With Love.”
About This Song
“Falling In Love With Love” was written by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart in 1938. This song, from the Broadway musical The Boys of Syracuse, pairs a beautiful Rodgers waltz melody with the adult and rather somber lyric by Hart: in other words, a perfect Rodgers and Hart song.
About This Version
Tony Bennett recorded “Falling In Love With Love” in 1965, with an arrangement by Don Costa. The song was recorded for the album If I Ruled The World: Songs for the Jet Set, but wasn’t released in the CD-re-release of em>If I Ruled The World: Songs for the Jet Set in 1977. It was certainly worth waiting for!
“Falling In Love With Love,” as well as If I Ruled The World: Songs for the Jet Set, is available from iTunes.
I thought I’d poke around on YouTube to see if I could locate a nice video of this song. What I found, though, is much more interesting. It’s The Supremes singing “Falling In Love With Love” from 1967. I never knew that The Supremes had recorded Rodgers and Hart, but it seems that they recorded an album called The Supremes Sing Rodgers and Hart.
I have to say that I rather like the cover to this album:
