The song of the day for Saturday, April 12, 2014 is “Dancing in the Dark.”
About This Song
“Dancing in the Dark” was written for the 1931 revue The Band Wagon and is widely considered to be the finest of the songs written by Arthur Schwartz and Howard Dietz. Alec Wilder in American Popular Song describes it as “… a very strong song with a superb, poetic lyric.”
About This Version
We sat down this evening to watch Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in Swing Time and I knew that we needed to feature a song from Steppin’ Out for Saturday. “Dancing in the Dark” is one of my favorite songs as well. The arrangement is by Tony Bennett and Ralph Sharon.
“Dancing in the Dark,” as well as the album Steppin’ Out, is available from iTunes.
Here’s Fred Astaire and Cyd Charisse dancing to this beautiful song. Happy Saturday, everyone!
