The song of the day for Sunday, January 24, 2016 is “The Last Time I Saw Paris.”

About This Song

Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein wrote “The Last Time I Saw Paris” in 1940 for the movie Lady Be Good, where it was introduced by Ann Southern. “The Last Time I Saw Paris” won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. It was not written especially for the 1954 film The Last Time I Saw Paris, which starred Elizabeth Taylor and Van Johnson, though the song was used liberally throughout that movie.

The song of the day for Sunday, January 10, 2016 is “The Song Is You.”

About This Song

Today’s song, “The Song Is You,” was written in 1932 by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein II for the musical Music in the Air. The song has been widely recorded, most notably by Frank Sinatra in 1959, but also by Annie Ross, Barbara Cook, Stan Getz, Dave Brubeck, Bing Crosby and Margaret Whiting, among many others.

About This Version

Tony Bennett recorded “The Song Is You” for his 2015 album The Silver Lining: The Songs of Jerome Kern. For this song, both Bill Charlap and Renee Rosnes are on piano.

We got to hear Mr. Charlap and Ms. Rosnes in concert his fall and they were wonderful. Don’t pass up an opportunity to hear them play.
