The song of the day for Wednesday, November 4, 2015 is “All For You.”
About This Song
“All For You” is based on the song “Nuages,” written in 1940 by Django Reinhardt with lyrics by Tony Bennett.
Bennett’s son, Danny, had long encouraged his father to write a song. While performing in Hawaii, he dropped in to a small jazz club and heard the Django Reinhardt song “Nuages” and felt that he had found the right melody for the song he had in mind. The resulting song is really beautiful.
About This Version
Tony Bennett recorded “All For You” in 2004 for his wonderful album The Art of Romance, which is one of this author’s favorite albums. The release of this album coincided with the purchase of my first iPod, and I listened to this album several-to-many times a day for quite some time. It’s still my go-to Tony Bennett album. It’s also the album I give to people who I want to introduce to Tony Bennett. It hooks them every time. And the photo on the album cover is stunning.
“All For You” was arranged by Johnny Mandel.
“All For You,” as well as The Art of Romance, is available from iTunes.
