The song of the day for Tuesday, May 7, 2019, is “If Yesterday Could Only Be Tomorrow.”
About This Song
“If Yesterday Could Only Be Tomorrow” was written by Ruth Poll and Robert D. Emmerich. This song has been recorded by Nat Cole, Dayna Kurtz, and Christina Crerar (I have no idea who these two women are, but their recordings are very nice).
About This Version
Today at work, I let Apple Music choose what I should hear. Mostly this computer-generated playlist offered up alternate recordings of songs that I really love, which was wonderful.
But then something happened that practically blew me out of my Herman Miller chair: a song sung by Tony Bennett that I had never heard before. I don’t call myself an expert, but after seven years of doing the blog and creating our sister site, discography.bloggingtonybennett.com, I believe that I am at least pretty darned educated when it comes to Tony Bennett songs. But then I heard Tony Bennett singing a song called “If Yesterday Could Only Be Tomorrow” that was completely and totally new to me. It was an amazing experience.
This song was recorded for the soundtrack for the 2002 movie Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, which I will admit that I’ve never seen.
I was able to find out who wrote the song, but have no idea when it was written. I’ll keep working on that.
Meanwhile … I’m guessing that today’s song is new to many readers. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
