Originally written for the musical Jumbo by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, “There’s A Small Hotel” was used the next year in On Your Toes, where it was introduced by Ray Bolger and Doris Carson. The song has been recorded by artists including Chet Baker, Josephine Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra and Della Reese, in addition to Tony Bennett. In a biography of Lorenz Hart, he is quoted as saying that, “the song was inspired by a visit that Richard Rodgers made to the Stockton Inn, in Stockton, NJ.”
About This Version
Nothing too special about today’s song, other than it’s light and sweet and has a nice cornet solo about halfway through. Nice to listen to.
