“St. James Infirmary Blues,” also known as “Gambler’s Blues” has unknown origins and is considered to be an anonymous American folk song. Louis Armstrong recorded it in 1928, and it became popular. It’s been widely recorded by jazz and folk singers.

About This Version

Tony Bennett recorded “St. James Infirmary Blues” in 1946, singing Joe Bari, with the 314th Army Special Services Band of the European Theater. This is the earliest extant recording made by Tony Bennett.
