The song of the day for Saturday, July 9, 2016 is “You’re Nearer.”
About This Song
Rodgers and Hart wrote “You’re Nearer” for the 1940 movie version of Too Many Girls. It’s one of their loveliest and most elegant love songs.
About This Version
Tony Bennett and Bill Evans recorded “You’re Nearer” in 1976 for their second album: Together Again. On the cover of the original LP, Richard Rodgers states “Tony’s recording of You’re Nearer makes me extremely happy and would affect Larry Hart the same way if he could hear it.”
“You’re Nearer,” as well as Together Again, is available from iTunes.
About Today
For our Saturday video, we have a guest singer who was a great friend of Tony Bennett. Here’s Judy Garland singing “You’re Nearer” from her television show.
A Special Request
As some of you may have heard, Tony Bennett was forced to cancel his July 9th performance Pittsburgh due to a case of the flu. I hope you all will keep him in your prayers and good thoughts as we wish for a speedy and complete recovery for him.
