The song of the day for Wednesday, July 2, 2014 is “That’s My Home.”
About This Song
“That’s My Home” was written in 1932 by Otis and Leon René. The René brothers were born in Covington, Louisiana at the turn of the 20th century. They wrote several well-known R&B songs, including “When It’s Sleepy Time Down South.” In addition to composing, they also created and ran several label and even a record pressing plant. Louis Armstrong was the first to record “That’s My Home.”
About This Version
Tony Bennett and k.d. lang released their collaborative album, A Wonderful World, in 2002. All of the songs on this album, including today’s song, are songs that Louis Armstrong is associated with. It’s a warm and loving album and is worth anyone’s time for a listen. “That’s My Home” may not be as well-known as some of the songs on the album, but it’s just as fine as any of them.
