The song of the day for Saturday, August 26, 2017 is “Sing You Sinners.”
About This Song
“Sing You Sinners” was written by W. Franke Harling and Sam Coslow for the 1930 film Honey, starring Lillian Roth. The song was an early hit in 1950 for Tony Bennett.
About This Version
Tony Bennett has recorded “Sing You Sinners” several times and each of those recordings are wonderful. Today I’d like to feature that first recording, make on July 20, 1950, his fourth session at Columbia, with an arrangement by Marty Manning.
“Sing You Sinners,” as well as all of the songs collected on The Columbia Singles, Vol. 1, is available from iTunes.
About Today
For our weekly Saturday video, here is a nice video of the recording session with John Legend for the 2006 album Duets: An American Classic.
