The song of the day for Sunday, September 25, 2016 is “Remind Me.”
About This Song
I have to start off by saying that I’ve been in either a Jerome Kern or Dorothy Fields state of mind for several days now, so much so that I’ve been listening to either Tony Bennett’s and Bill Charlap’s The Silver Lining or Barbara Cook’s Close As Pages in a Book non-stop today. It was destined that we would have a Kern-Fields song today.
“Remind Me” was written in 1940 by Jerome Kern and Dorothy Fields for the movie musical One Night In the Tropics, starring Abbott and Costello. The song wasn’t used well and was not immediately successful. Mabel Mercer recorded it towards the end of the 1940s and it is now considered one of the popular standards. It has also been recorded by Jeri Southern and Nina Simone.
About This Version
Tony Bennett recorded “Remind Me” in 1971 for his album With Love. The lovely arrangement is by Robert Farnon.
“Remind Me,” as well as With Love, is available from iTunes.
