The song of the day for Tuesday, July 29, 2014 is “Cheek To Cheek.”
About This Song
Irving Berlin wrote “Cheek To Cheek” for the 1935 film Fred Astaire – Ginger Rogers film Top Hat and was used in one of their loveliest dances in any of their films. Fans of the Tom Hanks movie The Green Mile may remember that the Michael Clark Duncan’s last wish was to see a movie and his complete delight in the performance of this song.
“Cheek To Cheek” became an instant hit and has been widely recorded by jazz and popular artists worldwide.
In September, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga are releasing their jazz album, which is called Cheek To Cheek. I can hardly wait.
About This Version
Today’s version of “Cheek To Cheek” is from Tony Bennett’s 1987 album of Irving Berlin songs, Bennett/Berlin. Bennett arranged the songs and sings with the Ralph Sharon Trio, with Paul Langosch on bass and Joe LaBarbera on drums.
