As a part of our Bill Evans tribute, the Song of The Day for August 16, 2012 is The Two Lonely People.
About The Two Lonely People
The Two Lonely People was written in 1971 by Bill Evans, with lyrics by Carol Hall.
A week or so ago, I saw a post on Twitter by someone listening to the Tony Bennett / Bill Evans recording of this song and said it felt “bruised … and beautiful.” I’ve worked with actors in past who would figuratively bleed onstage during a performance. This song feels the same way to me. Perhaps it comes from Tony’s training at The American Theater Wing, but this song is as emotionally deep and profound as the best theater. It is at once so private that I wonder if I should be even hearing it, but inside I know that I’m being given a gift to listen and learn about myself.
Bill Evans originally recorded The Two Lonely People in 1971 on The Bill Evans Album.
