“Autumn Leaves” was composed in 1945 by French composer Joseph Kosma, with French lyrics by Jacques Prévert. It’s title was “Les feuilles mortes” which directly translates to “The Dead Leaves.” The English lyrics by Johnny Mercer were added in 1947, who named in “Autumn Leaves.” Jo Stafford was the first artist to record the song with the English lyrics. Other notable recordings include those by Edith Piaf and Nat King Cole.

Tony Bennett has recorded this song several times. I’m a big fan of the 1964 version arranged by George Siravo and included on the album Who Can I Turn To.
