The song of the day for Thursday, October 11, 2018, is “He Loves and She Loves.”
About This Song
George and Ira Gershwin wrote “He Loves and She Loves” or the 1927 Broadway musical Funny Face, which starred Fred and Adele Astaire. This song was used in the 1957 movie of the same name, which starred Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn. Other than the title and handful of the original songs, the film and the musical bear no resemblance to each other.
About This Version
This week Apple Music is featuring a lovely playlist created by Tony Bennett and Diana Krall inspired by their new album of Gershwin songs: Love is Here to Stay. In addition to songs from that album, the playlist features songs sung by Krall and Bennett individually as well as Gershwin songs from other jazz singers. I was listening to this playlist at work this afternoon when Bennett’s recording “He Loves and She Loves” started. I was so moved and emotionally touched by the beauty of this recording, I knew that I had to feature it today.
Tony Bennett recorded “He Loves and She Loves” in July 1993 and was released that year on Steppin’ Out. It was arranged by Tony Bennett and Ralph Sharon. I hope you find it as enchanting and memorable as I did.
